Making a Difference for Our Furry Friends

We are thrilled to bring you the latest updates, accomplishments, and upcoming events as we continue our mission to support the cats and dogs of Benton County, one paw print at a time.

Why Support PAWS?

Founded in 2022, the Proactive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) was created in response to the growing challenges faced by the Benton County Animal Shelter (BCAS). With limited resources and an overwhelming number of stray animals, the residents of Benton County recognized the need for action. PAWS emerged as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting BCAS financially and promoting responsible pet ownership.

Unlike traditional rescue groups, PAWS focuses on fundraising to make more rescues possible through BCAS. Our efforts include providing free or low-cost spay and neuter services, hosting vaccine clinics, and supporting a variety of other animal welfare initiatives. By contributing to PAWS, you are directly helping to improve the lives of animals in our community.

Our Mission

PAWS is a 501(c)(3) charity committed to raising funds for the Benton County Animal Shelter and the animals of Benton County. Since our establishment, we have successfully applied for grants, offered free immunizations, and provided spay/neuter services and veterinary care to those in need. Our work is made possible through the generous support of individuals and organizations alike.

2024 Achievements So Far

This year has been incredibly productive for PAWS, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished:

  • Fundraising Success: We’ve raised money through various events, including a Pickleball fundraiser, our 2-year anniversary celebration on Facebook, the “Hogs for Dogs (and Cats)” motorcycle event, and sales from 2 Sisters Market Place in Camden.

  • Community Impact: We’ve distributed numerous reduced-fee and free spay/neuter vouchers, held multiple vaccine clinics, funded a new play area at BCAS, and repaired the shelter’s outside dog doors.

  • Community Outreach: PAWS had a booth at the county fair to share information, and many of our members regularly volunteer at BCAS, walking dogs and providing companionship to the animals.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Claire Petry

Claire Petry, a Benton County resident since 2016, has been a passionate advocate for animal welfare in our community. After moving to Holladay in 2019, Claire quickly became involved with PAWS, particularly in establishing a Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program to address the feral cat population in the area.

Claire’s dedication to this cause led her to become the first TNR Board Member at PAWS, where she has played a crucial role in securing funding and implementing the program. Her story is a testament to the difference one person can make when they decide to take action.

When asked about her first pet, Claire fondly recalls Sheba, a German Shepherd/Sheltie mix who left a lasting impact on her life. Claire, along with other PAWS board members, is eager to continue making a difference for the animals of Benton County.
